Why Moms Love Taylor Swift

Posted by Unknown at 11:58 PM

I am nervous to trade the “pumpkin patch and tractor rides” stage of our lives for my daughter’s inevitable teenage years. I know how hard those adolescent years can be, and I don’t want my baby girl to struggle with the challenges of growing up in a world that is so confusing. Sadly, I can’t freeze time, but I am thankful for artists like Taylor Swift who see the challenges facing mothers and put out albums that are positive and uplifting.
Her song, “The best day,” was written by Taylor for her mom. Can I just say that it’s extremely refreshing to see a young female artist who has a strong and healthy relationship with her own mother! I sang this song to my little girl Gwen during a girl’s day we had earlier this fall. We went to brunch before heading to Alice’s Tea Cups. The staff just ate Gwen up. Most people do when she flashes her dimples at them! They gave her fairy wings and sprinkled Pixie Dust all over her. It was so cute. I found myself singing Taylor’s “Best day” out loud to Gwen. It so perfectly summed up how I felt in that moment. This track will always have a special meaning for me and my daughter because it’s a song we equally love and relate to.
…she consistently reminds us mom’s that young love feels real and that those heartbreaks seems like the end of the world.
Taylor Swift’s lyrics focus on meaningful relationships, love and life lessons. She gives our girls a best friend during the tearful break-ups and heartaches they will experience. Not to mention, she consistently reminds us mom’s that young love feels real and that those heartbreaks seems like the end of the world. We were there once too, but we’ve forgotten. Until we hear her songs, that is. Through her music, Taylor is able to tap into how girls really feel about the people in their lives. More importantly, she’s not afraid to express her feelings despite what others may think about them. I want to raise a daughter who is not embarrassed of her feelings and also has the confidence to stand up for herself.
As my daughter grows, I hope we will continue singing music together that unites us and helps us understand each other. And to Gwen: If I ever forget to tell you, I had the best day with you.
